What we do

Sunflower Trust was founded in 2017 and registered in 2018 as a charitable Trust under the law of Kenya. Sunflower is a literacy and leadership development program that provides holistic educational support to vulnerable children through literacy, technology, reproductive health education, sports. Art and culture. At Sunflower, we believe that every girl, regardless of academic performance, has the potential to impact the world; we bring that impact to life through our holistic model of support and training, giving all girls the opportunity to succeed and follow their dreams.

Sunflower Fellows is a unique, four-year leadership development program for primary school girls studying in the informal schools within the Kibera Slums of Nairobi, Kenya. We identify low-performing young women at risk of ending their education early, and provide them with holistic support daily after school, on the weekends and during the holidays, involving teachers, parents and caregivers to ensure our fellows are developing their academic skills, leadership abilities, and most importantly, self-confidence.

Sunflower Leaders is not merely an after-school program, but a leadership academy, dedicated to ensuring that all girls get the opportunity to succeed. The Sunflower Leaders program combines rigorous academics, training in literacy and technology, the arts and the environment, with unique opportunities for community service and leadership skills, giving Kibera’s most at-risk young women the potential to be agents of change within their own lives and their community.
